Education and Common sense. . Any correlation at all???

Hi 2 all (possibly non-existent) readers,

WARNING : Please don read further if u r not in d mood 2 read about rantings how ppl should behave but dont!!

We have all been told through out our life that “Education refines the personality” and hence go to school!!!
We’d have written a 100 essays or talked in dozens of debates about “the difference between an educated person and the uneducated”. . “education of all would lead to a beautiful world”. . blah blah blah. I’m beginning to wonder if there is even an iota of truth in this argument.

How else am I to react if I find the “brightest minds” in the “top class institutions” of the country behaving in a faaaaaaaaar from civilized manner???

Note that I certainly dont mean that All IITians are a barbaric lot… After all, I AM one of them now 😉

Coming back to the topic. . which is it that “undo”-es all the basic sense filled into us by our family?? Is it jus the “IIT” tag. . or the education system on the whole??

* At home, u dont talk too loudly lest you disturb a sleeping grandma. . and almost Never play your favorite music @ full volume lest the neighbors come charging at you.
—-> Here, u jus dont care about the existence of other souls in the hostel. . either they dont have ears. . or they don hav the right to complain about your practicing “rock music” complete with drums and sound system @ 11.30pm loud enuf 2 create a mini earth-quake
———–> And, if some “abnormal” soul (read : Me) gets totally freaked out by the chaos and demands you to let ppl sleep/work peacefully, u dismiss her off as someone who has an “attitude problem”. . “no spirit”. . “no sense of art”. . “just a dumb post-graduate student who din deserve 2 b an IIT Btech”!!!

Note : I don giv a damn what u think of me or what names you call me. . as long as you let me preserve my sanity!!

* At home, u cant stand ppl leaving dirty plates/coffee cups around. . “Its jus not decent of them”!!!
—-> Here, u happily take food from d mess. . leave it for a couple of nights and watch d fungus growing beautifully on it. . and abandon d stuff on the staircase. . .What a favor u r doing 2 ppl who havent seen d beauty of fungus .. or smelt the “aroma” of rotting food!! 😛

* Jump to d ugliest of the skeletons in d cupboard
—-> Dont ever flush d toilet after use!!! Saving water huh???

Now, thats jus a small trailer of all the “civilized behavior” around here. . Is there anything wrong in me wondering if education reverses common sense? Or am I the weirdo here???

Could go on and on listing such things. . only, i’d get angrier and feel bored myself.

Jus hoping against hope that ppl grow up someday. . Whew!!
